Bioethics Minor Program - toolkit links and course syllabi for commonly taught courses in the Program:

Bioethics and Related Courses, Fall 2007

Students,

Here's a rough, preliminary list of bioethics-related courses for next Fall semester, arranged according to the rubrics of the Bioethics Minor.  Since registration begins soon, I wanted to get this to you as soon as possible even though we'll be making amendments to this list over the next couple of weeks.  If you have noticed a course in the COD that doesn't appear on this list, please let me know and we'll consider it for inclusion.

Remember, the "related electives" (Sec.5 below) generally need to be paired with hard-core bioethics courses -- e.g., "Health Care Policy and Management" would go nicely with regular bioethics courses on justice and access to care -- but some of the items on offer for next Fall can happily stand alone (see below).

Note that we have a ton of courses on offer under the rubric of ethics/political philosophy.  If you are contemplating taking one or more courses in this area in order to fulfill the bioethics requirement in ethics/political philosophy, it looks like next Fall is an ideal time to do so.  It could be slim pickin's come Spring.

With any luck, we'll soon be hiring a new senior professor of bioethics who will also be teaching a couple of courses next Fall.  We'll let you know about these additional courses once we've made the hire.

Please note that we are currently receiving applications for the Bioethics Internship Seminar, RELG 423 (Prof. Mohrmann).  The deadline for applying is April 6.  For more information on the seminar and application process, see:

Related Electives:

(As a general rule, such electives should be related to a regular, hard core bioethics elective of the sort displayed in sec. 4.  E.g., Health Care Policy and Management could be paired with Justice and Health Care.  Some such courses next term would be all-purpose related electives and would not need to be paired with a regular bioethics elective -- e.g., Relg 263, ENSP 381, SOC 220, ANTH 250 etc.  If you have any questions about this, ask Prof. Arras)
